Wesley Ong Senior Pastor

Whom have I in heaven but Thee? And besides Thee, I desire nothing on earth. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. But as for me, the nearness of God is my good; I have made the Lord God my refuge, that I may tell of all Thy works. Psalm 73:25-26, 28
Wes Ong was born in Marysville and raised in Yuba City, about 40 miles north of Sacramento. As a young child he was invited to a Nazarene church, where he learned about Jesus. He attended Yuba City High School and later, majored in mathematics at the University of California at Berkeley. In his junior year, he received Christ after attending a Bible study at the Chinese Independent Baptist Church, Oakland. Following graduation, he attended the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, to earn his California elementary and secondary life teaching credentials and a master’s degree in teaching mathematics.
While at USC, Wes began to attend the First Chinese Baptist Church in Los Angeles, where he met and married Faye, his wife of 34 years. They have two grown children, Kristen who is married to Ryan Kimball, and Matt, both Biola University graduates. Grandson Benjamin Wesley Kimball arrived in 2007. After teaching junior high school mathematics for 12 years and coaching high school basketball for 7 years in South Pasadena, Wes received God’s call to enter the ministry. He earned his M.Div. at Talbot Theological Seminary, La Mirada, in 1985. He came to Laguna Chinese Baptist Church the year he graduated, after it became clear that God was calling him to pastor this church.
In 1999, he earned his doctor of ministry from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Deerfield, Illinois. Wes’ passion is “healthy churches, healthy pastors.” In 2008, Wes entered into a 2-year co-senior pastorate with Pastor Hubert Ng, with the purpose of being released to new staff role at LCBC in 2010. Another passion of Wes is to train men as lay pastors. Five of these men are currently preaching at churches without pastors.
After last running a marathon thirty years ago, Wes got back into running and finished (barely!) two marathons in 2008. He also enjoys short nature trips with Faye. Giving him deep satisfaction is the habit of reading through the Bible every year, currently for the 11th consecutive year.
